Hot Bulletproof Whiskey

January 23, 2016

It's family movie night around here, and my sister's husband and kids are deeply engrossed in The Lord of the Rings (I think). My sister and I are doing what we do best when movies are playing...multitasking and asking questions ("why don't you watch the movie if you want to know what's going on," he says).

It seems that despite reading these books as kids, neither of us can figure out the whole who's-who and what-happened-when-in-which Hobbit/Lord of the Rings thing.

So I'm thinking about whiskey instead- a fitting match for tonite's movie.

We picked up this Ghost Owl whiskey a while ago at a Bellingham grocery store- the kind of grocery store that carries many local products. And we're suckers for buying local products, especially when they're in mesmerising packaging like this Ghost Owl! Even better, it's made just up the road from us (a distillery tour/tasting in our near future?)

A dark and stormy night, a dark and stormy movie, and an eerie ghost owl staring us down- it all came together so perfectly!

Add in some leftover coconut milk (we seem to have a lot of that around here), coffee in the pot from this morning, and bellies that need to be warmed? Here is what you get: Hot Bulletproof Whiskey.

No skimping here- we used real, full fat coconut milk, ginger for a bit of heat, and cinnamon for its intrinsic warmth.

Ah, feel the heat from Mordor? (yes, I CAN multitask!)

Ok, so maybe the heat's from the bourbon, but either way, you're cozy, warm, and entertained!
